Veneers
Veneers are thin shells, typically made of porcelain or composite resin, that are custom-made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. They are used to improve the appearance of teeth by addressing issues such as discoloration, chips, cracks, or gaps between teeth. Veneers can provide a natural-looking, durable solution for enhancing the aesthetic appeal of a smile.
The process of getting veneers typically involves several steps:
Consultation: During the initial consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for treatment to determine if veneers are the right option for you.
Preparation: To prepare the teeth for veneers, a small amount of enamel may need to be removed from the front surface of the teeth. This is done to create space for the veneers and ensure a proper fit.
Impressions: After the teeth are prepared, impressions or digital scans of the teeth are taken. These impressions are used to create custom-made veneers that will fit your teeth perfectly.
Fabrication: The impressions or scans are sent to a dental laboratory where the veneers are fabricated. This process may take a few weeks, during which temporary veneers may be placed on the teeth.
Bonding: Once the veneers are ready, they are bonded to the front surface of the teeth using a special dental adhesive. The dentist will ensure that the veneers are properly positioned and then use a curing light to harden the adhesive, securing the veneers in place.
Final adjustments: After the veneers are bonded, the dentist may make final adjustments to ensure proper fit and alignment. This may involve trimming the veneers or making minor alterations to achieve the desired result.
With proper care, veneers can last for many years. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene habits and avoid habits that could damage the veneers, such as biting on hard objects or using teeth as tools. Regular dental check-ups are also important to monitor the condition of the veneers and address any issues that may arise.
