Orthodontic treatment
Orthodontic treatment is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on correcting misaligned teeth and jaws to improve both oral health and aesthetics. Orthodontic treatment can address a variety of issues, including crowded teeth, crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and malocclusions (incorrect bites).
Orthodontic treatment typically involves the use of braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliances to gradually move teeth into their proper positions. Here are some common orthodontic treatments:
1. Traditional Braces
Traditional braces consist of metal brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by wires. The wires are periodically adjusted to apply gentle pressure, gradually moving the teeth into alignment. Modern braces are more comfortable and less noticeable than in the past.
2. Clear aligners
Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are custom-made, removable trays that fit over the teeth. They are nearly invisible and offer a more discreet alternative to traditional braces. Clear aligners are typically replaced every few weeks as the teeth gradually shift.
